Hello! My name is Sonal Swain and I'm currently a senior at Guilderland High School. This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer at a not-for-profit school for children with disabilities, Digant, in my home town in Odissa, India. The two weeks that I spent working with the students, teachers, and families were truly magical, eye-opening, inspiring. 

 

After returning to the States, I began my independent research class (E=mc^2) where I'm currently studying the impact of India's societal expectations on its special education system. I've learned so, so much over the last few months, both about myself and my own home. 

 

My experiences at Digant, as well as my research project, have inspired me to continue giving back to a school that has played a pivotal role in shaping who I am today and who I want to become in the future. Still, Dollars for Digant is merely the beginning and I'm looking forward to everything I learn and experience over the next few months. 

 

My love for children, education, medicine, public policy are ever-growing and I look forward to expanding them even further in college and through my professional career. But, until then, I hope this campaign serves as the foundation for my many dreams and love for Digant.
